IB Buys Binghamton, NY
March 12, 2011 - TAIB has been sitting on disclosing the following information for awhile. A parent's questions about the IB implementation process reminded me that I better capture the pertinent financial information before it disappears off the web.

Back in 2004, when IB was implemented in Locust Valley, I recall many glowing references to SUNY Binghamton's fondness for IB. I didn't think much of it at the time. But just recently, after controversy erupted in Hauppauge, NY, I noticed the district published a "damage control"
info page on its website in which again, SUNY Binghamton was mentioned.

So what is it about SUNY Binghamton that makes it such
a vortex for IB?

There he is. Handsome fella. How did Dr. Penna claim
to spend at least 10 hours a week?

Well, he didn't get paid any money. It was an honorary "volunteer" position, right? But did the Binghamton district see any other sort of "benefits" from IBNA?

Only $14,940. Not a fortune. But certainly an enticement.

If Binghamton HS could push its students to be IB students, and the local SUNY would more readily accept IB students and cut them a better deal credit-wise, it certainly looks a lot better for Dr. Penna, doesn't it?

So who WAS the President of SUNY Binghamton for the past 20 years and only recently retired?

Lois B. DeFleur, has earned her own entry in Wikipedia. I found it to be quite an interesting read. You be the judge.
